Obstacles to Outwardness

By Steve Sjogren | May 23, 2006

Why is the outward focused life important, anyway? Let me point you to some ancient spiritual wisdom.

Perhaps the most succinct single verse in the Christian sacred text is, as I and many others see it the pivotal verse, in the Book of Romans, chapter 2, verse 4. I like the Message Version’s take on it for it’s enthusiastic spin on Paul’s words: “The kindness of God leads to a radical life transformation.” In the context of chapter 2, that kindness comes not from above directly to people, but from person to person, then they will know that God is for them – it is God’s love shown to them through God’s people.

If there has ever been a time in history when society needed a radical transformation it is today. Each of us can become ambassadors to change the world by leading an outward focused life of God-inspired kindness.
