Clarity: “Don’t grow weary in well-doing”, pt. 2

By Steve Sjogren | June 8, 2006

It is vital that you clearly define what you will and what you won’t do to serve those in need, because it pretty much comes with the territory that when people are hurting they will “hear” promises when none were made, they will assume things when nothing was signaled clearly by you or your team. Therefore, coaching on clear communication is a great tool to impart to your team. (My friend and co-author Dave Ping’s organization Equipping Ministries International – www.emi.org — has a multitude of materials that are designed to help in this regard – listening, speaking the truth in love, breaking free from the lies that have kept us in bondage. Check them out!)

Lastly, pray that God will use you in this vital area As you draw near to those in need you will discover very quickly a new nearness of God that you have never known, felt, or walked in, that is simply amazing. I point to my experience of getting around those in need as the genesis of my heart and mind being set ablaze by God and turned outwardly as many of you think of me now as being all along. That all began by Janie and me going out on Saturdays back in 1983 to Hamilton, Ohio, to a crack neighborhood, going door to door with bags of groceries, asking people if they knew of anyone who could use groceries. I have never been the same since that first Saturday. Neither will you be the same once you dare to step out of your place of safety.
